What to expect:
We’ll spend our time together writing to several prompts (5-20 minutes each) which will spark our creativity. I might read a poem or present a scenario–all crafted to help you generate ideas. And in the Amherst Writers method, I’m not a teacher–I’ll be writing right alongside you.
Each group member is encouraged to share their writing aloud. And that includes the leader–we’re in this together. In the spirit of the method, our responses to the writer are always positive. I’ll ask group members to tell the writer what they’ll remember or what worked in the piece. This is not a critique group!
All the writing is treated as fiction, so the focus will be on the story, not on you. (Which I think you’ll find incredibly liberating–I know I did!)
