Writing with friends

A creative alternative to the run-of-the-mill parties selling children’s books, makeup, or kitchen tools …

Gather a group of 5-8 friends in your home and write together from memory or imagination in a comfortable, judgement-free zone. I’ll tailor a session specially for your group–all you do is extend invitations and collect RSVPs.

DATES AND TIME determined by you.

Place: the comfort of your home

Your only responsibility will be to provide a welcoming space for writing for your guests. I will send you an email template invite with necessary information for your guests, develop prompts, and facilitate the group. If you have any questions or would like to schedule, email me at pocketwrites @ gmail dot com.

What to expect:

We’ll spend our time together writing to several prompts (5-20 minutes each) which will spark our creativity. I might read a poem or present a scenario–all crafted to help you generate ideas. And in the Amherst Writers method, I’m not a teacher–I’ll be writing right alongside you.

Each group member is encouraged to share their writing aloud. And that includes the leader–we’re in this together. In the spirit of the method, our responses to the writer are always positive. I’ll ask group members to tell the writer what they’ll remember or what worked in the piece.  This is not a critique group!

All the writing is treated as fiction, so the focus will be on the story, not on you. (Which I think you’ll find incredibly liberating–I know I did!)

So whether your friends are experienced writers or just want to try something new, let’s write together soon.
